You don’t have to wait till a date or romantic evening with someone else to get in touch with your seductive side. These simple steps act as instant pick-me-ups.
1. Mist on your favorite fragrance.
“The act of putting on your perfume can become sexy in itself,” says Sylvaine Delacourte, the director of fragrance development at Guerlain. You can wear something classically romantic, like florals or spices, but the type of fragrance doesn’t really matter as long it makes you feel amazing.
2. Wear your favorite underwear on an otherwise ordinary day.
“Don’t save lingerie for special occasions,” says Paris-based lingerie designer Chantal Thomass. “If you feel beautiful underneath everything else, then you look better; go ahead and wear what you love every day.” Whether it’s vampy push-up bra, a lacy bralette, or your softest cotton boxers, allow yourself to sport your underwear of choice even when no one else is going to see it.
On the other end of the spectrum, if freeing the nipple lifts your mood, then go for it. You’ll be in good celebrity company.
3. Get moving.
Research suggests physical activity can improve people’s body image. (We’re not talking about how they feel about their appearances but how they feel about their physical abilities.) Something as simple as a fifteen-minute walk can put you in touch with your body and lift your spirits. And while any bit of walking helps, researchers have found that 150 minutes of walking (or other physical activity) per week can help you avoid chronic disease and early death. Sexy.
4. Fidget — the right way.
We’re not talking about nervous foot-tapping or picking at your split ends. Body language coach Jack Brown says certain actions convey a sensuality that can make you feel provocative: Try lightly tracing the rim of your glass, playing with your necklace, or rest your fingers on your collarbone.
5. If your hair can be messed up, mess it up.
“Get a proper blowout, then destroy it a little,” hairstylist Harry Josh recommends. “Go outside in the wind; sleep on it. The next day it will look perfectly tousled. Then fluff up the roots with your fingers to prevent it from being flat — this simulates what would happen naturally if you were rolling around in bed.”
6. Stand up straight.
Crouching over your phone or computer will make you feel anything but seductive. “Look at the way dancers and professionally trained athletes carry themselves: Their hips are aligned; their shoulders are even; they don’t slouch. They give off a certain vitality and energy,” says Martin Lloyd-Elliott, a psychotherapist who studied at the London Institute for the Study of Human Sexuality. You don’t have to be a ballerina or an Olympian to reap the benefits of improved posture. Standing or sitting up straight with your shoulders back and relaxed can help you feel instantly more confident, and confidence is hot.
7. Have sex…
…including with yourself. It’s the most obvious item in this list, but countless studies have found that sex releases just about every feel-good hormone, contributing to increased happiness, less stress, improved health, and a more youthful appearance. If those aren’t four excellent reasons to get busy now, we don’t know what are.
